We are a registered charity founded in 1994. Our object is to promote the complex of buildings known as Hadleigh Guildhall as a place of amenity.
The Friends have created a garden to provide a suitable setting for what is one of the most important buildings in Suffolk. During the summer months we serve cream teas and also conduct guided tours of the whole range of buildings. Tours are given to visiting members of the public and to pre-booked groups who for instance may be studying medieval architecture and history.
In order to put the Guildhall into its historical context, the Friends are working on an exhibition that relates the long history of the town.
Each year the Friends hold social events including an Annual General Meeting in April and a fork supper in October. Such events also include illustrated talks from interesting speakers.
Our aims?
To raise funds from selling teas and tours in order to improve facilities for visitors. Recent examples include, ramps in the garden to facilitate access by disabled visitors, garden furniture, purchase of computer equipment to enable archive documents to be scanned and stored on CDROM, conversion of two rooms for use as permanent exhibition areas (with the help of grant aid).
